Obituary for Barbara Jean Burke
Barbara Jean Burke, 70, November 6, 2022. Beloved mother of Kristin Burke. Devoted sister of the late Janice (late David) Lavin, Dale (Sue Burke) Virginia Burke, Robert (Barbara) Burke, Sandra (Alain) Bondi, Earl D. Burke and Jennifer urke. Proceeded in death by her parents, James Lee Burke and Sophie nee Bezak, Burke. Barbara was an admired aunt to many nieces, nephews and friends.
Barbara Burke was the epitome of a strong woman. What she lacked in physical stature she made up for with courage, conviction, tenaciousness, and a sprinkling of attitude. Her entry into this world was one of adversity, but she overcame seemingly insurmountable challenges with fierce determination and grace; often with her sister Ginger right by her side. Barbara was unconditionally loving, supportive, and accepting of her daughter Kristin. She spent many days, and nights, at the softball fields either cheering for her daughter’s team or yelling at them to “run faster”. Barbara loved her siblings, their children, and grandchildren with all her heart and cherished time spent with them… especially Brittany. She had a quirky sense of humor, loved to make small talk with strangers, and enjoyed quiet nights in simply reading a book. She will forever be in our hearts. Ya-Ya!
Special thanks to life long friend of Kristin, Kristyn Rapacz for being by her side in this most challenging times. Silvia Rapacz has been a caring 2nd mom to Kristin since the two best friends met in Kindergarten. Grateful to have had them both in her life.
Memorial Visitation will be held at CENTRAL CHAPEL, 6158 S. Central Ave., Chicago, IL, where family and friends will gather on Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 3 to 8 p.m.
Cremation has taken place in accordance with Barbara’s wishes.
