Obituary for Carmen Alfaro
Carmen Alfaro, 82, January 27, 2021, longtime resident of Cicero, IL, beloved wife of Gustavo Alfaro; cherished mother of Ramon (Maria) Barba, Irma (the late Pedro) Valadez, and Sandra Elena (Ricardo) Lopez; proud grandmother of 9 and great-grandmother of 10; devoted sister of Narciso Velazquez, Maria Dolores Velazquez, the late Ignacio Velazquez, the late Javier Velazquez, the late Rafael Velazquez , Maria Velazquez DeGarcia, Rigoberto Velazquez, Federico Velazquez, and Hector Velazquez. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio Velazquez and Maria DeJesus Flores.
Carmen was a strong willed, outgoing, loving, and family first person whose talents could not be measured even by those around her. Everyone that knew her will remember her as a strong woman with an extraordinary capacity. She was a social butterfly, from her travels to Mexico to visit family and friends, to her visits to the local YMCA to have a chat and occasionally workout, and who could forget her love for “Girls Night Out”. These were moments to try new things, celebrate life events but mainly to be with those she cared for and enjoy the moments in time. Her home was a place of gatherings and a personal sanctuary. As a woman of faith who prayed daily and believed in its strength her home was always full of family and friends. Gatherings were full of laughs from family passed and family new, with the Matriarch who brought them together. In her spotless home lined with family photos, her cooking second to none was made with flavors from her own personal vegetable garden and years of perfecting experience. Wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother to name a few. Most of all a woman who touched everyone’s heart around her. In this God has gained a strong, beautiful angel with a will like none other in a better place where there is no pain, at peace and always in our hearts.
Carmen era una persona cariñosa, determinante, amorosa y sociable con talentos que no podían ser medidos ni siquiera por quienes la rodeaban. Todos los que la conocieron la recordarán como una mujer fuerte con una capacidad extraordinaria. Ella era una mariposa social, desde sus viajes a México para visitar a familiares y amigos, hasta sus visitas al YMCA local para platicar y hacer ejercicio ocasionalmente, y quién podría olvidar su amor por “Noche de Mujeres” con sus hijas y sus nietas. Fueron momentos para probar cosas nuevas, celebrar eventos de la vida, pero principalmente para estar con sus seres queridos y disfrutar de los momentos en el tiempo. Su hogar era un lugar de reuniones y un santuario personal. Como mujer de fe que rezaba a lo diario y creía en su fuerza, su hogar siempre estuvo lleno de familiares y amigos. Las reuniones estuvieron llenas de risas de familiares fallecidos y familiares nuevos, como la Matriarca que los unió. En su casa impecable llena de fotos familiares, su cocina insuperable se hizo con sabores de su propio huerto personal y años de experiencia perfeccionando. Esposa, madre, hermana, tía, abuela, bisabuela, por nombrar algunas cualidades que ella tenía. Sobre todo, fue y siempre se recordará como lo que fue una gran mujer que tocó el corazón de todos a su alrededor. En esto Dios ha ganado un ángel fuerte y bello con una voluntad como ninguna otra en un lugar mejor donde no hay dolor, en paz y siempre en nuestro corazón
