Obituary for Carmen R. Orendain

Carmen R. Orendain (Cita) a long-time Chicago resident, passed away on February 9, 2024. She was 80 years old. She was the beloved daughter of the late Dr. Angel I. Reyes and Consuelo G. Reyes. She leaves behind two very well-loved daughters Nicole and Simone Orendain, and is survived by her older sister Dorotea Soler (Eduardo+), her younger sister Amelia Reyes, nieces and nephews, and she joins her recently deceased oldest brother Dr. Marcelino Reyes (Maureen Cummings). Carmen, fondly known by many as Cita is survived by a multitude of young people who often called her their “second mom.”

Cita was known for how much of an impact she made on people’s lives in her work at church, as an athletic instructor and the numerous other ways she interacted with everyone. She is remembered for her kind concern for others and the respect she showed to all she encountered. A woman of deep faith, Cita in the final years of her life, leaned heavily on the Lord and our Blessed Mother. She was a champion of the Holy Spirit, Whom she always taught was the guiding post of every Catholic’s faith life.
