Clyde Owens Bowles, Jr. passed away October 12, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Alice who passed away February 1, 2018. Clyde was the son of Clyde and Carrie Thacker Bowles. He was born February 2, 1927 in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. with distinction and with honors in Economics, 1948 and Yale Law School with a Juris Doctor, 1951. He and Alice were married in August of 1961 in Chicago. Clyde’s first three years practicing law were in his hometown of Kansas City and the remainder of his practice was spent in Chicago. Clyde was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court as a member of the Board of Law Examiners, Chair of the National Conference of Bar Examiners, member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association and member of the Council of the ABA’s Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.

Clyde received from the Emperor of Japan The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. Clyde was Past Chair of the National Association of Japan-America Societies, Past President of the Japan America Society of Chicago, Past Chair and Member of the Board of Directors of McCormick Theological Seminary, Past President and Member of the Board of Trustees of Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago and Clerk of Session of Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago. Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Talbot, his sister Rosalie, his brother Byron and his wife, Alice of over 50 years. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Graveside Service Friday, October 19, 2 p.m., at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Rd, Skokie, IL. Rev. Judith Watt, of Fourth Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Memorial Service Saturday, December 15, 11 a.m., at Fourth Presbyterian Church, Michigan Avenue at Delaware Place, Chicago. Reception following.
