Obituary for Darrell Lynn Dimmick

Darrell Lynn Dimmick
Darrell Lynn Dimmick, 57 of Chicago for past twenty-five years formerly of East Peoria, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday July 29, 2017. He was born June 28, 1960 in Peoria, the son of Wayne B. and Gloria L. (Chapman) Dimmick. He is survived by his mother of Peoria and siblings Deborah K. Smith of Kingston, Ontario, Canada and Rodney B. Dimmick of St. Louis, MO. In addition, he is survived by three nephews and a niece, five cousins and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents Martha Dimmick and Claude and Omega Chapman all of Peoria and other relatives.

Darrell as a young boy lived in Greenview where he enjoyed a carefree childhood with many friends. He attended Greenview Comm. Grade School and later Wenona Comm. Schools, graduating from East Peoria Comm. High School in 1978. Darrell excelled in mathematics and was a good student, played basketball and liked vintage cars. While living in Wenona he assisted with sound and lighting equipment for a gospel group his brother was in and his parents were sponsors of and toured with the group. He was quite interested in statistics and often recorded sports stats while attending games. He attended and was an active member of youth group at First Methodist Church, Peoria.

While still in high school Darrell began working at J. C. Penny & Co.’s Tire Shop at Northwoods Mall, Peoria. He worked about 8 years also attending Illinois Central College, East Peoria and after two year’s study transferred to Ferris State College, Big Rapids, Michigan. Darrell graduated May 23, 1987 with academic honors and distinction, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Television Production. He was then employed at Fel-Pro Inc. Skokie where he produced marketing and multimedia presentations for annual meetings for a number of years.
In later years Darrell returned to his statistical interests as a horse racing fan and was self employed as a Horse Racing Tips Sheet Producer for Kelly Tip Sheets, Chicago. This he continued for many years to the present working from his home.

Darrell was a devoted, supportive son, recently greatly assisting his mother with live in help while she recovered from a major illness and patiently instructing her on use of equipment she was unfamiliar with. Darrell was a kind, friendly, positive person with a good sense of humor and hearty laugh who expected and required little. He enjoyed good food and cooking and especially his beautiful view of Lake Michigan from his apartment windows. He was a loving brother and uncle and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Service, Saturday, Aug. 12, 2 p.m., at Lutheran Hillside Chapel, 6901 N Galena Road, Peoria, IL. Reception following.
