Obituary for Dolores A. Gomez

Dolores A. Gomez, 81, passed away after a brief illness on December 31, 2020.

Dolores, known lovingly by her family and friends as Lolita, was born in Coahuila, Mexico where she was a trained accountant. She migrated to the United States in 1967 arriving in Chicago, her life’s home, where she married, worked, and raised her family remaining a die-hard White Sox fan her entire life.

Lolita was the embodiment of a true immigrant success story: working at a bank until she could start her own business, then in later years sharing her talents as a translator at Cook County Hospital’s Emergency Room, now Stroger Hospital, while being a dedicated Avon Cosmetics rep for many years.

Lolita will be remembered by many for running the popular “Casa Azul” restaurant and bar, alongside her husband and children, in the city’s Little Village neighborhood for decades. She fed, entertained and conversed with the thousands of students that came through the Washburne Trade School with a smile.

Lolita is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gilberto Gomez, brothers Jesus and Gerardo and parents Hilario Alonso Hernandez and Juana Morena Cruz. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her two children, Rosy and Sol Gilberto; grandson, Andy; sisters, Alma, Macrina, Juanita; brother, Jose; sister-in-law Eugenia; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
