Obituary for Dosta Mae Lee

Dosta Mae Lee passed away accidentally on December 24, 2022. Dosta was born in the South Suburbs of Chicago on May 31, 1985 and was adopted, cherished and loved by John and Sally Lee as their only child.

Her family moved to Elkhart, Indiana just in time to start kindergarten. Dosta attended Riverview Elementary where she was a cheerleader, Pierre Moran Middle School where she was in the orchestra and Central High School where she was a marching band flute leader. Dosta excelled in all she did. She went onto graduate from De Paul University with a BA in I/O Psychology. Upon graduation she immediately accepted a job in her field where she worked for 13 years.

Dosta was very special in the way she could maintain lifelong relationship with those she truly loved. She loved the Cubs and the Bears sporting events, as well as the Crosstown Classic she and her father would attend yearly. Throughout her life she formed friendships in Elkhart and Chicago that provided love, loyalty and a sense of belonging. Her best friend Amanda Boling gave her the honor of becoming her daughter Norah’s godmother. Dosta and her mama shared a deep bond and had a very special relationship.

Growing up as an only child in Elkhart on the St. Joe River Dosta shared many adventures with her 8 loving cousins. From making mud pies, playing badminton out front at the Jackson house, charades after Thanksgiving dinner, singing at Grandpa’s retirement party, rowing to the island and tubing at Grandma and Grandpa Lees, perfecting our Disney dance routines in the basement, annual birthday bbq’s, to Slava with the Jankovich family, these are memories our family will treasure for a lifetime. There is now a hole in the lives of her parents and family and our hope is it will be filled when we are with her again.

Dosta’s passions were movies, music, poetry, animals and the love of reading. She was a vocal feminist who advocated for inclusivity. She was famous for remembering lyrics or a quote from a movie. She found her spirituality in nature. Daily visits to the lake provided clarity and peace.

Dosta will be deeply missed by her beloved dog Pickle, who added much joy and purpose to her life.

Survived by her parents Sally Lee,John (Alexa) Lee. Proceeded in death by her namesake Great Grandmother Dosta Ilich; Dedo Zivko Ilich; Baba Kocana; Grandparents Jim and Wanda Lee; Cousin gone to soon Kathleen (Katie) Glynn.

Quote-
“Life is fleeting. And if you're ever distressed, cast your eyes to the summer sky when the stars are strung across the velvety night. And when a shooting star streaks through the blackness, turning night into day... make a wish and think of me. Make your life spectacular.”
-Jack: Robin Williams (a quote taken from Dosta’s Facebook page)
