Obituary for Glen William Johnson

Glen William Johnson was a son, brother, uncle, and friend. He left this world suddenly on August 2, 2022, at age 61.

Born to William and Nancy Johnson on August 22, 1960, in Milwaukee, WI, he earned a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Education from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI and a Juris Doctorate degree from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, MI. He is survived by his parents, his sister, Lori and her husband Paul, his nephew, their son Ethan and former spouse, Tom.

Glen embraced life with passion and curiosity. He was a dedicated, energetic collector of art, an ardent supporter of architecture, a film fan, and a ravenous reader. Exceedingly generous with his time, Glen served as a board member for organizations he believed in throughout Michigan and greater Chicago, including the Sculpture Advisory Committee for Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, MI, the Edith Farnsworth House in Chicago, IL, and the International Sculpture Center, among others arts groups. He worked closely with Planned Parenthood of Michigan as part of his commitment to social justice, but his fiercest advocacy went to the LGBTQ+ community, including as a supporter of the Center on Halsted in Chicago and board member for Affirmations Community Center in Ferndale, MI, a safe space supporting the LGBTQ+ youth community.

His early years as an attorney were spent in the greater Detroit area with DTE, Michcon, and the firm Barris, Sott, Denn & Driker. Later in his career, he turned his attention to wealth management, focusing on family and business governance as National Director of Business Advisory Services for Fifth Third Bank, Managing Director of Mirador Family Wealth Advisors, and President of Membership at Family Office Exchange (FOX) in Chicago.

Glen Johnson was bigger than life, unapologetically generous with his time and advice and unfailingly compassionate with the people who were lucky enough to know him. His devotion to family, friends and his community is his legacy.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Glen at Meijer Garden on September 24, 2022.at 11:00 a.m (ET) If you would like to make a donation in Glen’s memory, below are some of his favorites:
