Obituary

Helen Cadena was 90 years old and born on November 13, 1929, and she rested in eternal peace on May 1, 2020. She was a resident of the Gage Park neighborhood and former resident of the Back of the Yards area in the Southwest side of Chicago.

Helen is survived by former husband, Michael Cadena and their children. Helen was a beloved and devoted Mother of late Irma Cadena, Michael Cadena (Sara), Richard Cadena (Veronica), Belinda Cadena (Jesus), Rebecca Cadena, and Roger Cadena (Reyna), loved daughter of late Catalina Ramirez Mendez and late Marciano Mendez and dear sister of late Gabriel Mendez.

She was a loving grandmother to Lorenzo, Edward, Holly, Mark Jr., Melissa, Marcy, Adam, Benjamin, Roger Jr., Matthew, Celso, Tony, and Gabriel. She was a beloved great-grandmother to Isaiah, Giana, Anayah, Naomi, Julian, Noah, and Jayden. Family was the most Important part of her life and she showed unconditional love to all.

Helen was a loving, devoted, compassionate and selfless mother. She owned and worked diligently with her husband to manage a grocery store in the Back of the Yards. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, crocheting, swimming, and reading the bible. Helen was a spiritual and kind woman and involved in church activities. She was also the protector, nurturer, spiritual counselor, and offered help to those in need, and loved to feed everyone.

Helen was the true meaning of a warrior and Godly legacy of faith. She will be deeply missed by her family, and many relatives and friends. Helen has entered the Gates of Heaven and is now at peace, but her memory and legacy will live on through all of us and she will always be our guiding light. Helen lived by the biblical verse Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
