Obituary for Joan Teresa Fabiano

Joan Teresa Fabiano
Age 70, lifelong resident of Chicago, went home to be with the Lord October 4, 2022. Beloved daughter of Dolores Barrett (Dowland) and the late James Barrett and Antonio and Dorthea Fabiano (Johannesson); dearest companion and friend of Phil Kaczynski; loving sister of James (Linda) Barrett, Maureen DiCharia, Mary (James) Bracken, Jacqueline Barrett (Michael) Gibson, John (Kimberly) Barrett, and Dolores Barrett; admired aunt of Christy DiCharia (James Shew),Timothy (Danielle) Barrett, Caitlyn Barrett, Demetrius (Erica) DiCharia, Joshua (Kerry) Barrett, Quinton Gibson, McKenna Barrett, Kassidy Barrett, and Riley Barrett; also survived by numerous loving great-nieces and great-nephews.

Joan attended St. Turibius Elementary School and graduated from Hubbard High School. She later went on to receive her master’s degree in Social Work at Loyola University.

She worked many years for the City of Chicago, Department of Human Services, and later retired as the District Manager of the North Area Office.

Joanie had a strong commitment to her Catholic faith. She was a member of the Franciscan’s Third Order. She was the Former Executive Director of Franciscan Works in the Libera Mission, receiving the St. Francis Award, and the former Chief Financial Officer for the Honduras Mission.

Services at McInerney Central Chapel, 4635 S. Wallace St., Chicago, Illinois where family and friends will gather on October 11, 2022 from 3 PM to 8 PM. Funeral is on October 12, 2022 with chapel prayers at 9 a.m. to St. Gabriel's Church for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. For those attending services please note wearing of masks are encouraged but not mandatory.
