Obituary for Jose Luis "Googie" Lopez

Jose Luis “Googie” Lopez, 63, January 1, 2021, longtime resident of the Southwest Side of Chicago, West Elsdon neighborhood, beloved husband of Patricia (Mendez) Lopez; cherished father of Yvette (Juan) Campos, Bernadette Lopez (Rene Mendez), and Jesse Lopez; fond son of Juana Garcia Lopez and the late Juan Lopez; adored “papa” of Vanessa Lopez-Campos, Mireya Campos, Julian Campos, Ximena Campos, Amelie Mendez, and step-grandson, Julian Mendez; devoted brother of Josephine Lopez (late), Margaret Hall, Teresa Guerrero, and Marcos Lopez; fun-loving uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Jose loved fishing! He was a proud Chicago sports team fan, especially the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed feeding the birds in his yard and bird watching. He loved to collect comic books, cook–especially fish dishes–and enjoyed music of just about all varieties. One of his favorite T.V. shows was Law & Order. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He was kind, hard working and knew something about just about everything, being referred to as “a jack of all trades.” Jose will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
