Obituary

Joseph E. Goga, 55, September 6, 2020, lifelong resident of the South Side of Chicago-Canaryville neighborhood; loving father of Shannon Baier and proud grandfather of Kaelee Skye Baier and Mary Kathryn Baier; beloved son of Anita Goga and Jim (Mercedes) Goga, CPD-retired; devoted brother of Jim (Michelle) Goga, Eileen (Joe) Fogarty, Bob (Margie) Goga, CFD, Margie Goga, Karyn (Fred) Montijo and Cindy (late Bill) Goga; uncle of 18, great uncle of 5; as well as a good friend to many.

Joe was a friend to anyone who met him. He will always be remembered for his gentle spirit, a hearty laugh, an extensive vocabulary and his undeniable love of music. He also had an affinity for the color purple, earning the nickname “Grape Ape.” He loved letting his “freak flag fly.” Joe worked at the Board of Trade for many years before going back to school for his massage therapy license. He took great pride in education and learning.

To honor his life and memory, the family is requesting guests to wear shirts that fit Joe's personality such as band shirts, purple, or wild prints.

I just found out about Joe's Passing. I met Joe When I worked at the CBOT back in the 90's. When we discovered we both played bass it turned out we knew a lot of the same people, Joe was a huge Mentor to me back in those days. He opened My eyes and ears to so much great music that helped Shape who I am today. He was a Brilliant musician and amazing Human Being. My Deepest sympathy to his family

My condolences to the whole family. I met joey when he was just a teen starting to learn bass. He was determined to learn that ax at any cost. His determination payed off as to join the band for awhile. Joey always kept me laughing. I can still hear his laughter. Later on in life , I had always thought of Joey from time to time when I took on new musical endeavors...wondering if he was still playing. I swear he was a spawn from Gene Simmons. All things must pass...buts it hurts to the core when you least expect it. I am sure he is in that great gig in the sky. Rock on my friend. My memory of Joey is still of that youthful determined kid playing that Bass.
God Bless
