Obituary for Juanita Sledge

Juanita Sledge aged 95 passed away in her sleep on February 19th, 2022. She unconditionally, deeply loved her 8 children, grand children and family.

She was passionate about education and taught the third grade for 40 years. Her belief was 3rd grade was a pivotal moment in a child’s life and she wanted to make a difference. Throughout her life she promoted equality and lived Dr. King’s dream of seeing a person not by the color of their skin but the content of their character.

In her free time, mom enjoyed traveling across the United States, spending time with friends and family.

It was said she was unselfish to a fault. Often neglecting the needs of herself for the needs and well-being of her many family and friends. Juanita Sledge was strong in her faith in God, smart, funny, enthusiastic, creative and always had a positive attitude. She was the traditional “Big Mama”, always had a helping hand, never turning away family or friends in need of food, shelter or advice.

I am proud to say, These past few years her family collectively took care of her with the same level of love, dignity and comfort she shared so freely.

Today, say a prayer for Juanita Sledge and do not mourn her death but join us in celebrating her life. Because she made a difference in this world and to say that her family and friends will miss her is a understatement.
