Obituary for Mary C. Rios - Rutherford

Mary C. Rios-Rutherford, 69, a longtime resident of the West Side of Chicago-Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods, passed away on October 26, 2020 with family at her side. She was born to the late Jose and Nolberta Rios on December 4, 1950 in the Great State of Texas. Mary was the dearly beloved wife of the late Paul W. Rutherford and devoted mother to the late Joshua W. Rutherford, Nancy (Frank) Salinas, Cecilia (Joseph) Mannion and Paul J. (Cristina) Rutherford. Loving Grandmother to Joshua and Gianna Rutherford; Jacob, Victor, and Frankie Salinas; Amanda, Jessica, John, Michelle, Michael, Joseph, Mariah, Ezio, and Angelo Mannion; Maria, Mia and Vanessa Rutherford. Great Grandmother to many children. Beloved sister to the late Joseph (late Carole) Rios, Phil (Veronica) Rios, the late Olivia (Frank) Acevedo. Dear Daughter-in-law to the late Paul W. and Jessie Rutherford. Dear Sister-in-Law to Gerry (late Julio) Aguliar, the late Julia (late Erine) Pridemore, the late Lena (Kurt) Kotlik, and the late Paula (Fred) Teer. Mary was the aunt to many nephews and nieces and aunt/Godmother to Francine (Byron) Garcia.

Mary was active in volunteering in the community as a baseball mom, was part of the PTA at Cokerky Elementary, and was very active with her husband in assisting many local politicians to become elected in Chicago. Mary was also a business owner where she owned and operated her own restaurant and fed the less fortunate. Mary was the glue that kept her entire family together. She is known to say “you will never know until you try.” And always said her Good-Bye with “I love you, be careful and watch your back.”

Services at CENTRAL CHAPEL, 6158 S. Central Ave., Chicago, where family and friends will gather on Thursday, October 29, 2020, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral Service Friday, October 30, 2020 at 11 a.m. Cremation following.

For those attending services, PLEASE NOTE THAT COVID19 RESTRICTIONS WILL BE OBSERVED FOR MAXIMUM GATHERING, 25 PEOPLE AT A TIME, WITH MASKS REQUIRED.
