Raul “Ralph” Ruis
75, lifelong Southsider of Chicago, Pilsen neighborhood, passed away January 20, 2023. Beloved husband of nearly 51 years to Maria Ruis (Baldwin); loving father of Dario (Roshan) Ruis and Ralph (Jenny) Ruis; cherished Bipa of Michael Wilkins, Stella Ruis, and Santino Ruis.
Raul attended St. Procopius elementary school then graduated from De La Salle high school. He also received an associate degree from a Junior College.Most of Raul's career was spent in the military: He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968. He was active duty until he was honorably discharged in 1972. From there Raul enlisted in the Illinois Air National Guard until his retirement in 1996. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant spending close to 29 years serving his county. He was proud to be a Chicagoan of the Southside, and avid Chicago White Sox fan. He enjoyed listening to old time radio, including CWS Baseball, EWTN Radio, Relevant news, and his police scanners. Some of his favorite past times included watching old western films, and his all-time favorites The Godfather, Trading Places, and Mi Familia. Raul was a devout Catholic. He would attend church regularly and pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy faithfully. He loved spending time with his family, enjoying Mexican Cuisine of his heritage and listening to traditional Mexican music.
In his early years Raul took great pride in being neat and organized. He would spend his Saturday’s cleaning, making sure everything was in order and tidy, not to mention tinkering with his grandfather clock. Always a playful and silly Bipa doing his best karate moves and asking his grandkids to watch Dora or Kai-lee children shows. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will always be remembered and never forgotten.
Services will be held at Central Chapel 6158 S. Central, Chicago, where family and friends will gather on Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral Monday, January 30, 2023, 9 am. at Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 4810 S. Leamington Ave. Chicago. Burial to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors.
