Obituary for Raymond E. O'Connor

Raymond E. O'Connor, 94, died peacefully in his home on May 29, 2019. Dearly beloved husband of Renate, devoted father of Rita (Ed) Konstanty, Elaine (Jim) McCarthy, David (Sandra) O'Connor and Mark (Beth) O'Connor. Cherished grandfather of Corey (Vania), Kathleen, Ana, Kevin, Eric, Sean, Logan, Adam and Kendall, and proud of the people his grandchildren became; loving son of the late Raymond P. and Elizabeth Braun O’Connor; fond brother of Bettyan Hrkel, and preceded by Dolores Florek, Maurice, Norbert, Francis, Laurence, and Jerome O’Connor.

The great loves of Ray’s life were St. Rita, ice cream, traveling, aviation, and his family. He had 41 years of dedicated service to his country, first in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, then the rest of his career with the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a proud and active alum of St. Rita High School, Class of 1942. He served on the school boards of St. Rita High School and St. Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School. Member and service representative of NARFE-National Active and Retired Federal Employees for many years.

Family and friends will gather at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, 7740 S. Western Ave., Chicago, on Friday, August 9, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11a.m. Rev. Tom McCarthy, OSA, officiating. Military honors to follow. Private burial St. Mary Cemetery.
