Robert N. Fox, Jr., was born April 21, 1947, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Mrs. Cora Bell Fox and Mr. Robert N. Fox, Sr.
Robert, who was called Sonny by his family and Sonny Boy by his grandmother, Reverend Mattie Bell Hicks, was the second oldest of Cora’s four children.
Robert loved to play monopoly as a child with his three siblings, Timothy Hicks, Mattie Frances Fox Norman, and Frances Janet Dicks. They would play until 4 o’clock in the morning during the summer.
As a child, Robert developed a love for repairing electronics. He would often take televisions, radios, and other electronics apart to try to fix them. As an adult, people would ask him to repair their televisions and radios, because he was so well known by neighbors for his skills. As a kid, Robert would earn money along with his brother, Timothy, caddying for golfers.
Robert attended Charles Moore Elementary School. He also attended Lincoln Junior High School and Dudley High School.
Upon graduating high school, Robert entered the U.S. Army on July 21, 1966. Stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas, Robert was trained in infantry radio maintenance. Robert also learned to be a marksman and target specialist. By the time he left the Army in 1968, he had been awarded many medals and commendations, one of which was for his great shooting skills.
In 1973, Robert met Janet Robinson. Years later, on September 13, 1980, Robert N. Fox, Jr. and Janet Marie Robinson were united in holy matrimony. Janet was the mother of six children: Darnell, Marlando, Michael, Benita, Reginald, and Tomeka.
Robert was also a great auto mechanic, teaching his automotive skills to his stepson, Darnell, and stepdaughter, Tomeka.
Robert’s favorite music was R & B and funk, because he loved to listen to the bass in the songs.
To support himself and his family over the years, Robert worked for Bluebird Juice Company, he pulled parts for J & B Auto, and did various jobs in construction.
Robert N. Fox, Jr., passed away on June 10, 2020. He leaves behind his six children to mourn his passing and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as his brother, Timothy, and sister, Frances (Janet).
He has now been reunited in the heavenly choir, which hopefully includes some R & B, with his grandmother, Reverend Mattie Bell Hicks, his mother, Cora, his sister, Mattie, and his wife, Janet.
