Obituary for Sylvester W. Majka

Sylvester W. Majka, 73, October 3, 2020, lifetime resident of the Southwest Side of Chicago- of Brighton Park neighborhood, dearly beloved husband of Theresa Augustiniak Majka; devoted father of Denise (James) Gaylord, Lisa (Pablo) Padilla, Laura (Scott) Kostiuk, and Robert (Christine Verran) Majka; loving grandfather of William Gaylord, John Gaylord, Eric Kostiuk, Tyler Padilla, Mateo Padilla, the late Hunter Kostiuk, Shan Majka, and D.J.; preceded in death by his parents, Walter S. and Frances W. Blazewski Majka; fond brother of Janice (late Richard) Cherry, fond brother in law of Max (Diane) August, Ruth (John) Smego, and the late Michael Augustiniak; dear uncle, great uncle, and friend of many.

Sylvester was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam War, as well as a proud alum of St. Rita High School-Class of 1964 (Go Mustangs!). Member of Five Holy Martyrs Holy Name Society and Catholic War Veterans.

Services at CENTRAL CHAPEL, 6158 S. Central Ave., Chicago, where family and friends will gather on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Thursday, October 8, 2020, 9:45 a.m., at chapel, St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel,7740 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Rev. Tom McCarthy, OSA, officiating. Private burial with military honors, Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
