Obituary for Teresa Alice Smith

Teresa Alice Smith (Haggerty), age 76 of Homer Glen, passed away after a long battle with cancer.
Teresa was born on a cold morning at home on October 29, 1946 to Mary and Edward Haggerty in Chicago.
In 1954 her mother married William Argenbright and he raised her and their brother Eddie as his own. Their family was complete as the baby of the family was born, Thomas, in 1961.
She grew up on the South side Canaryville, and attended St. Gabriel’s Catholic School, graduating from Commercial High School in 1963.
She always worked and was very independent and mature. One of her favorite jobs was at Sears in the Sales department.
Teresa fell in Love at 19, married at 20 to Lou “Skip” Smith on November 26, 1966. Babies followed and she would always say, “her children were her greatest accomplishments. Maria, ND (Tim), Jeff, Retired CPD (Mary), Lou Smith, Terry CPD, Veteran (Jaclyn).
When “Skip” passed away in 2009, Teresa’s kindness she had shown to others in the past came back to her ten-fold. Friends and family lifted her through those heartbreaking times.
Teresa made the World’s best potato salad. Requests would pour in on special occasions and in the last couple of years, she shared the recipe with her granddaughter’s so the tradition can continue. She was a TV show connoisseur, her favorites being: Blue Bloods, Greys Anatomy, Chicago PD, Chicago Med and Fire, Mike and Molly, and Call the Midwife.
She loved her family more than anything else. The courage she has shown in the last 12 years battling cancer is a true testament to her strong will and love for life.
If you know Teresa, you know her favorite holiday was Christmas and she had the decorations to prove it. The joy of the season always made her feel like a kid again. She was exceptionally generous in everything she did.
Teresa never met a stranger; she became a friend to everyone whom she crossed paths with. Everyone was invited into her home at anytime and it was unlikely you would leave without having a cup of coffee and a pastry. Teresa was kind, compassionate, yet strong-willed (some might say stubborn), protective of her friends and family when needed.
She absolutely adored her 9 grandchildren and welcomed them into the world, Carrie, Abby, Michael, Madelyn, Luke, Grace, Kyle, Emily, and Meghan. The special memories will last a lifetime and the kids were so lucky to have such an involved Gram.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, her husband, her brother, her mother-in-law, many cousins who she dearly missed, especially Geri Lynch, friends and her beloved dogs, Gabi, Heidi, Brandi, Patches, and Millie.
She is survived by her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, brother Thomas Argenbright, (Retried, CPD), her special nieces and nephews Miguel, Ryan (Gina), Donna, Jackie Perales (Ricky), Sean (Abby), 3 grand-nephews, 1 grand-niece, and her very close friends Mart Sobotka, Patricia Hoffman, Pat Clemens and Cookie.
Special thanks to Louie who was her loving Son and TV pal, family and friends, and Mary and Bill Sobotka and family.
She was an angel on Earth and a true blessing to those she loved and loved her.
