Obituary for Thomas Patzelt

Dearest Friends and Family,
As you already know, our beloved Father, Grandfather, Husband, Brother, Friend... Thomas Patzelt... passed away on Thursday evening, September 16th, 2021. He was in the ICU battling Covid for nearly 3 weeks. As you can imagine, the medical bills are quite a burden for the family. We know times are tough for a lot of people, so ANY amount is graciously accepted and appreciated. Seriously, even $1 or $5 or $10.
Without exaggeration, Tom was one of the kindest, sweetest, and most genuine human beings most of us have ever had the privilege of knowing. We will all miss his jokes, his silliness, his smile, his laugh, his enthusiasm, and his positive attitude. Everyone knows how much he loved children. Not just his own children (Mariana and Tom Jr) and grandchildren (Ben, Amelia, Olivia, Juliana, Isabel, and Camila). But he loved ALL children, as he was a big kid at heart. He played with many generations of nieces and nephews and their children as well. Of course he was a very popular Santa Claus at North Riverside Mall for 3 seasons. He really LOVED being Santa!
Tom had seemingly boundless energy and incredible work ethic. And he really got along with everyone regardless of age, race, background. He truly loved all people. He loved going to the shooting range (Especially with his best friend/brother Pat and his sister-in-law Debbie), and he loved long walks in the forest preserve.
Tom had so many friends, that it's impossible to list them all. From the Old Neighborhood on Claremont and Taylor... from his early days at John M Smith... to Simpsons Tavern... to his construction days... to his time at Midway Airport... and all his fellow massage therapists and patients. To his closest friends, you know who you are. Although, Tom truly did make everyone feel like they were his best friend.
The phone calls and text messages pouring in from friends, family, and co-workers is heartwarming and a true testimony to how many people were impacted by this humble man of God.
We know we speak for a LOT of people when we say we are truly heartbroken and will miss him dearly!
WE LOVE YOU FOREVER, TOM!!!
WE LOVE YOU FOREVER, PAPI!!!
-Mariana, Tom Jr, and Blanca
