Life Story for Sr. Kathleen Kevin Ryan, CSJ

Sr. Kathleen Kevin Ryan, C.S.J., was born on July 10, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on February 11, 1947, where she made her final profession on August 15, 1952.
She received her bachelor’s degree in history from Fontbonne College in 1958.

Sister Kathleen Kevin served 46 years in education. She began teaching in 1949 and served as an elementary school teacher in St. Louis for her first 13 years

The following 15 years, Sister Kathleen Kevin taught in Augusta, Georgia, at St. Mary on the Hill (1962-1967); in Hancock, Michigan, at St. Joseph/St. Patrick (1967-1970); in Chicago at St. Viator (1970-1971) in Honolulu, Hawaii, at St. Theresa (1971-1974); in Marquette, Michigan, at St. Peter (1974-1976) and at Bishop Baraga Central (1976-1977).

In 1977, Sister Kathleen Kevin began 26 years of service in the Archdiocese of Chicago. She taught at St. Bede the Venerable (1977-1978); St. Viator (1978-1979); Nativity of Our Lord (1979 – 1985); and Bridgeport Catholic Academy (1985-1994). In 1991, she served four years at Nativity of Our Lord as the religious education coordinator and the next 10 years in parish ministry.

Sister Kathleen Kevin returned to St. Louis in 2003 and served her CSJ community as a hospitality associate at the St. Joseph Provincial House for six years. Since 2009, Sister Kathleen Kevin lived at Nazareth Living Center in prayer and presence.

Funeral Services at the Motherhouse and Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, have taken place. In Chicago, there will be a gathering of family, friends and parishioners on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 653 W. 37th St., Chicago, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.
